NEET Cut off 2025: Category-Wise Marks & Qualifying Percentile

The NEET 2025 cut off 2025 is an important threshold for all the aspirants who are seeking admission into MBBS, BDS, and allied medical courses in India. Being the only national-level entrance examination for undergraduate medical education in the country, the NEET-UG is conducted by the NTA. Every year, though, the cut-off scores vary due to the difficulty level of the exam, the number of candidates who appeared for the exam, and the availability of seats in government and private colleges.

For any applicant under the reserved categories, the cut-off is what actually decides whether one shall get admission or not. It is a determining factor for admission into almost all medical colleges across India, especially in the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) and 85% State Quota/

Knowledge about the past trends of cut-offs helps learners know how to plan their course of action, be it in the preparation phase or during counseling. If candidates know what scores to expect, they can concentrate on securing specific ranks and be mentally prepared for waiting during the seat-allocation visits possible.

What is the NEET Cut Off 2025?

The NEET 2025 cut off is that minimum marks which a candidate must score in order to be eligible to pursue medical admission in India. It is decided yearly based on various parameters like the number of candidates appearing for the exam, tough or easy level for consideration, and number of medical seats available across the country.

Candidates are awarded +4 marks for every correct answer and are penalized 1 mark for every wrong answer. It is important to understand that there are two types of NEET cut offs:

  • Qualifying Cut-Off: It refers to the minimum percentile or score that a candidate must attain in order to pass the exam. Below this, the candidate is deemed ineligible to proceed with further admission processes.
  • Admission Cut-Off: This refers essentially to the score or rank required to be allotted a seat in a medical college. These depend on various parameters like the college, course, and candidate category, and are usually higher than the qualifying cut-off.

Have a thorough understanding of both types of cut-offs for appropriately planning one’s NEET preparation as well as college admission.

NEET Cut Off 2025: Minimum Marks Required for Medical Seat

This is one of the often-asked questions by the NEET aspirants: “What is the minimum score to get an MBBS admission in 2025?” Its answer differs every year because the NEET cut-off is dependent upon variable factors- like an exam’s difficulty level, the number of competing candidates, and number of medical seats available in eager government or private institutions.

The four core subjects of NEET 2025 will be Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology), carrying a total of 720 marks. As per marking scheme of NEET, every correct answer shall carry 4 marks and 1 mark shall be deducted for every wrong answer. However, no marks shall be given or deducted in case of questions left unanswered.

Somewhat scoring from 117 to 138 out of 720 could have been the weakest plausible passing cut-off for the Unreserved (General) category in previous years; for the reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC), the cut-off is relatively lower. But just qualifying does not guarantee admission: Doubling, and even tripling of cut-offs for MBBS admissions, is seen especially in prestigious government colleges.

NEET Cut Off: Some Importance for Medical Aspirants

If the goal is a government MBBS seat, you don’t just have to clear it with 50 percentile; you must aim for marks well above the cut-off for acceptances in top medical colleges such as AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC, or state medical universities.

This is where focused preparation and adequate guidance can transform the difference, which Radical Education offers.

FAQs NEET Cut off

The qualifying cut-off is the passing score of the exam, whereas the admission cut-off is the score required to get admission into a medical college. The admission cut-off is generally higher than the qualifying cut-off.

The cut-off is calculated on the basis of the top scores achieved by candidates, the level of difficulty of the exam, and the number of seats available. It is announced category-wise, with varying marks for General, OBC, SC, and ST candidates.

No, attaining the minimum qualifying marks merely makes a candidate eligible for counseling. Admission to a medical college is based on the rank, seat availability, and competition in the counseling process.
