NEET UG 2025Merit List and Qualifying Criteria

NTA will generate the Merit List/All India Rank (AIR) of NEET (UG) 2025 on the basis of eligibility criteria and norms of NMC, DGHS, MCC, DCI, and such other authorities as may be applicable. For eligibility, candidates should have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English with a minimum of 50% marks for general candidates (40% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL and PwD candidates). Specific subject restrictions and open schooling eligibility are pending legal proceedings. Tie-breaking factors are more marks in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and then less wrong answers. The 15% All India Quota merit list will be sent to DGHS and other authorities for online counseling, whereas state admitting authorities will manage non-AIQ seats.

Merit List and Qualifying Criteria

Qualifying Criteria

  • NTA will develop the Merit List/All India Rank (AIR) in accordance with eligibility criteria and regulations of concerned authorities such as NMC, DGHS, MCC, and AYUSH.
  • The candidates are required to pass Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English separately with at least 50% marks (40% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL).
  • Candidates with Benchmark Disabilities should achieve a minimum of 40% in the qualifying examination.
  • Open school/private candidates and candidates with Biology/Biotechnology as an extra subject are liable to legal proceedings, and their eligibility is based on court verdicts.
  • Candidates who take the qualifying exam can appear for NEET provisionally but will have to meet eligibility requirements for admission.

Inter-se-Merit for Tie-Breaking

  • Rank is decided by higher marks in Biology first, then Chemistry, and then Physics.
  • When the tie occurs, the person with fewer wrong answers in all the subjects is placed higher.
  • Additional tie-breaking takes lesser wrong answers in Biology, followed by Chemistry, then Physics.
  • In case all these criteria are exhausted, a random choice method will be used under expert supervision.

Merit List for 15% All India Quota

  • NTA will create a merit list for those candidates who are choosing the 15% All India Quota on the basis of NEET scores.
  • The list will be sent to DGHS, Ministry of Health, and AYUSH for allotment of seats through online counseling.

Merit List for Other Than 15% All India Quota

  • NTA will give All India Rank, and results will be communicated to government authorities and AYUSH.
  • Authority accepting authorities shall issue invitations to apply for counseling and make merit list on All India Rank basis.
  • Merit list, final, will be classified on the basis of state regulations as well as the declarations made during admission applications.
