Founded in 2016 through a legislative measure, Mahatma Gandhi Central University, commonly referred to as MGCUB is located in Motihari (Bankat), Bihar. It holds the distinction of being the second central university in Bihar, following the Central University of South Bihar in Gaya.

It provides various undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including B.Tech, B.Sc., BA, B.Com (Hons.), M.Tech, MA, MJMC, M.Com, M.Sc., MBA, MSW, M.Lib.I.Sc., M.Phil, and Ph.D. courses. Admissions at MGCU are facilitated through the CUET exam, administered by the NTA. There are provisions for candidates from SC/ST/OBC backgrounds.
