JEE Advance

What is JEE Advance?

The Joint Entrance Examination – Advance (JEE-Advance), formerly known as IIT-JEE, is an annual academic exam held in India by one of the seven zonal IITs under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) for qualifying JEE-Main candidates (foreign candidates exempted). It serves as a prerequisite for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and is also used for admission to other universities and even non-Indian universities. Widely recognized as one of the world\’s toughest exams, it puts significant pressure on high school students, with a low acceptance rate, and has historically been designed to be challenging. In 2023, out of 180,372 candidates, 43,773 qualified.

Courses Offered

Upon successfully clearing JEE Advanced 2023, candidates have the opportunity to secure admission in various programs, including Bachelor\’s, Integrated Master\’s, or Bachelor-Master Dual Degree programs in Engineering, Science, Architecture, Design, or Pharmaceutics, which are available at the 16 IITs and ISM. It\’s important to note that the availability of specific courses may vary across these institutes.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced, which is the entrance exam for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), are as follows:

  • Performance in JEE-Main: To be eligible for JEE Advanced, you must first qualify for the JEE-Main examination. The JEE-Main serves as the initial screening test.
  • Age Limit: For the General category and Gen-EWS candidates, you must have been born on or after October 1, 1998. For candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories, there is a relaxation, and you must have been born on or after October 1, 1993.
  • Number of Attempts: You can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in consecutive years. It\’s important to note that appearing in JEE-Main and being among the top 2,50,000 (including all categories) is essential to get the opportunity to take the JEE Advanced exam.
  • Top Percentage in Class 12 or Equivalent: You should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in JEE-Main in your respective categories. The distribution of these candidates is as follows:
45.0% for the common rank list (General category).
    27.0% for OBC-NCL.
    15.0% for SC.
    7.5% for ST.
The remaining 5% is reserved for Gen-EWS candidates.

Registration Fee and Documents Required

The fees and documents required for the Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE-Main) in India can vary from year to year and may also depend on factors such as the category of the candidate and the mode of examination. It\’s essential to refer to the official JEE-Main website or the information brochure provided by the exam conducting authority for the most up-to-date and specific information for the year in which you plan to apply. However, I can provide you with a general overview based on past practices:
