Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, Puducherry is a premier medical institution in India. It is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. JIPMER was established in 1823 as École de Médicine de Pondichéry by the French Government. It was converted into Dhanvantri Medical College in 1956 after the de facto transfer of Pondicherry to the Government of India.
