B.S.M.S. refers to Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery, an undergraduate program in Siddha System of Medicine and is also said to be the most ancient among the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) systems B.S.M.S. course, which is governed by the Central Council of Indian Medicine. It is the statutory apex body working under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of AYUSH.

Duration of the BSMS Course 

The duration of a B.S.M.S. course in India is 5.5 years, with 4.5 years of classroom study and one year of compulsory internship. After getting the degree, students are eligible to prefix Dr. before their name and be called to be a doctor.

Eligibility Criteria 

Candidates are supposed to meet the following criteria to be eligible for admission, which includes:

  • Candidates should have passed intermediate Class 12 or any equivalent examination recognized by the concerned State Government and Education Board with the subjects of physics, chemistry, biology, and English individually.
  • In the general category, candidates should have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at the qualifying examination and 40% marks for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.
  • In respect of persons with disability candidates specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the minimum qualifying marks in the said qualifying examination in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology shall be 40%.
  • Candidate shall be admitted to BSMS nursing courses through NEET scores degree courses only if he has attained the age of seventeen years on or before the 31st December of the year of his admission in the first year of the course and not more than twenty-five years on or before the 31st December of the year of admission in the first year of the course.
  • In the case of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and physically handicapped candidates, it is decided that the upper age limit may be relaxed by five years.
