Chhindwara Institute of Medical Sciences The district of Chhindwara was established on November 1, 1956, and is located within the Satpura ranges at coordinates 21.0574° N, 78.9382° E. Bordered by Maharashtra, Nagpur, Amravati, Hoshangabad, Narsingpur, Seoni, and Betul districts, it is the largest district in Madhya Pradesh spanning an area of 11,815 sq km with 11 Development Blocks. The 2011 census recorded a population of 2,090,306, with a growth rate of 17.89%, suggesting substantial growth. Notably, 35% of the population comprises tribal communities, and governmental initiatives have facilitated significant advancements in agriculture and industry.
With the District Hospital housing 400 beds, its occupancy often exceeds capacity, handling a daily influx of 1,000 to 1,200 patients, 15 to 20 surgeries, 50 to 60 daily orthopedic plasters, 80 to 100 x-rays, 30 to 35 sonographies, 8 to 10 C.T. scans, and 20 to 30 deliveries. The blood bank supplies approximately 35-40 units daily. Recognizing the considerable workload, the Madhya Pradesh government plans to establish a Medical College in Chhindwara, admitting 100 MBBS students. Moreover, the Government of India\’s notification on February 19, 2014, outlines the upgrade of the District Hospital, Chhindwara to a minimum of 500 beds, aligned with Medical Council of India norms. This expansion is expected to draw patients from neighboring districts including Seoni, Betul, Hoshangabad, and Narsingpur, effectively accommodating 600 beds.
