The Maharashtra Government has established a State Common Entrance Examination Department under Section 10 of the Maharashtra Private Professional Institutions (Entrance Fees and Fees Regulation, 2015) Act. CET Cell conducts various entrance exams for professional courses in the state of Maharashtra, India. 

The CET Cell was established in 2002 to provide a fair and transparent system of admission to engineering and pharmacy courses in Maharashtra. The CET Cell has been conducting the MHT CET exam successfully since 2003.

Its main objective is to facilitate admissions to professional courses like Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Law, Medicine, and AYUSH. and visual arts.

Counseling procedure

How do you take admission for the state quota?

After the results of NEET 2024, the prospectus and schedule for admission to the state common entrance test cell Maharashtra, Mumbai. Its website is https://cetcell.net.in/NEET-UG-2023/login. The candidate must fill out the registration form from the website itself. 

Application form fee for state quota is Rs. 1000/- and for Institutional Quota Rs. 5,000/- which is non-refundable. If the candidate wants to participate in both the state quota and institutional quota, then they have to pay an application form fee of Rs. 6000/- will have to be paid. Rs. 5,000/- can also be deposited at the time of institutional round Counseling. The candidates who want to participate in the institutional round, then they have to pay the application form fee of Rs. 5000/-, but there is no fresh registration at the time of the institutional round, only for the institutional round of the registered candidate, the application fee is Rs. 5000/- will be deposited.

The merit list will be prepared based on the NEET 2024 score of the registered candidate. Admission will be given by the State common entrance test cell Maharashtra, Mumbai in all the rounds of counseling. The registration and the choice filling for all the rounds can only be done once.  

Counseling Rules:-

  • Registration or choice filling is available only once, before the first round.
  • If a candidate is allotted a seat in any round and he does not join that seat or resigns from that seat after joining, then it will be considered that this candidate is not interested in the admission process. If so, then such a candidate will not be allotted a seat in the subsequent rounds.
  • Candidates can upgrade the seat allotted in the previous round to the next round up to the last round.

First Round of Counseling

This round of counseling is conducted in online mode and in this round counseling is done for all the vacant seats of all government and private medical colleges of state quota as per the provisional merit list. If a candidate has been allotted a seat in the first round of counseling then they have to go to the allotted College and get all admission after getting documents verified and get all the formalities completed. 

The seats of the candidates can be upgraded in the next round if they wish to get upgraded. If the candidate is satisfied with this allotment and does not want to upgrade their seat further, then at the time of admission they will have to fill out a status retention form in the college, after that, they will not be considered for the upgrade in the next rounds. 

If the candidate does not get a seat in the first round, then you will have to wait for the second round.

Second round of counseling 

The second round of counseling is done to fill the vacant seats after the first round of counseling. This round is also conducted in online mode. The seats of the first round can also be upgraded in this round. 

If the candidate has joined the seat in the second round of MCC, then they cannot participate in the second round. If the candidate does not get a seat allotted even in this round, then they have to wait for the Mop Up round.

Mop up Round 1,2 of Counseling

This counseling will be conducted to fill the vacant seats after the second round. This counseling will be conducted online.

Mop-up round 2 is conducted for the seats of all Government/Private colleges that are vacant in Mop-up round 1. 

This is the last round for private medical colleges.

After this round, to fill the vacant seats of MBBS/BDS in Government Colleges, these seats are filled by conducting mop-up rounds 3,4,5,6,7. ……… by the counseling authority.

Eligibility for mop up rounds of counseling :

  1. All those candidates who have joined the seat in the first and second rounds but did not fill status retention form means they can be upgraded in this round.
  2. All those candidates are eligible who have not got a seat in the first and second rounds and are waiting.

Ineligibility for  mop up rounds of counseling :

  1. Those candidates are not eligible who did not join or resigned after getting seat allotment in the first and second rounds.
  2. Those candidates are not eligible who have joined the seat in the first and second rounds and filled out the status retention form.

Institutional Round of Counseling:-

Institutional round counseling will be conducted to fill the vacant seats after the Mop Up round by Private Medical/Dental colleges. All the private MBBS/BDS seats remaining vacant after the Mop Up round are transferred to the concerned college and these seats are filled by the college itself by conducting Institutional rounds. 15% Institutional quota will be filled on an India basis which will also include NRI/OCI/Other than Maharashtra state candidates.

ANS. MHT CET or the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test is a state-level entrance examination for B.Tech/ B.Pharm/ Pharm.D admissions conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell.

ANS. No, there is no negative marking in MHT CET.

Q3.Are candidates from outside Maharashtra eligible for reservations under the SC category in MHT CET?

ANS. No. Reservations under any category are only for candidates who are from Maharashtra.

Q4 What is the nationality requirement for candidates appearing in MHT CET 2024?

Ans.  Candidates appearing for MHT CET 2024 must be Indian nationals, Foreign candidates are not eligible to appear for MHT CET. MHT CET exam is open to both Maharashtra and outside Maharashtra residents.
