There is only one government medical college in Chandigarh i.e. government medical college and hospital, Chandigarh. It is recognized by Punjab University. Since Chandigarh is a union territory the counseling is conducted by Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh itself. This institution is in very high demand and it is given high priority by the candidates after Delhi in all India quota.

There are three types of quotas which are prevalent : 

1. All India Quota – Admission through MCC counseling.
2. Chandigarh Pool Quota – Admission through GMCH Counseling itself.
3. Central Pool Quota – Admission through concerned Ministry/Department Counseling.
